Essential Fatty Acids The Best Fats to Consume
Who says all fats are bad for our body? Nowadays people are focused on essential fatty acids. This is the so called good fats because they are polyunsaturated fats that have been shown in studies to prevent high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, assist to fight cancer and neurological disorders.
Our bulk of fats consumption is the saturated fats and especially bad to our health within this type of fats are the trans-fats. They are the reasons we suffer high cholesterol, have blocked arteries, and high blood pressure. They also stresses our liver detox system because it encourages toxins (which are fat-soluble) to be trapped within our body and pushes our liver to detoxify them into water-soluble substances.
Essential fatty acids, omega-3, have very beneficial effects toward our body:
- Builds up our nerve cells and cell membranes that serves to control prostaglandins and manage key functions in our body.
Important to supplement the fats and create a building block necessary for our brain and nervous system development.
Maintains proper cell membrane fluidity as well as make them more permeable such that cancer cells are more responsive toward therapies. It also aids in making our phase one and phase two detoxification processes to function more efficient by having healthy cell membranes.
Help to dissolve oil-soluble toxins so that they can be easily excreted and purged out from our body.
Non essential fatty acids converted from omega are DHA and EPA. DHA is important in the development of our brain and nervous system and keeping them healthy. DHA and EPA jointly prevent cardiovascular diseases, boost up our immune system, and also fight cancer.
One of the best choices of foods to get omega-3 is flaxseed. There are some nutritionists who have advocated choosing flaxseed over cold-water fishes for their omega-3 source.
The reason is the increasing cases of pollutants and heavy metals found in fishes. It is highly possible for such toxins and heavy metals to accumulate in our body over time leading to detrimental health problems in the future.
A component within the flaxseed that has brought about great attention is lignan. It is the fiber in flaxseed that can interferes with cancer promotion by estrogen on breast tissues. They can also increase production of sex hormone binding globulin to purge out excessive estrogens from the body and hence regulate the hormone levels.
To take advantage of lignan in flaxseed, we have to pound it so that we can consume as much lignan as possible. The reason is flaxseed is very tough and can not be eaten by itself easily.
We would really recommend having it grinded with your mixer and then kept less than three months period for your consumption due to its instability if extended any time longer than that. Another point is the grinded flaxseed should not be put under heat because the polyunsaturated fats will disintegrate and change into trans fatty acids.
