“Hi, I got the book "Raw Secrets" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've already read it twice and I wish I had read it a long time ago. I've been trying to go raw for a year and have had all the problems you described in your book. Thanks so much for writing the book!”

Leatha Day

Before any discussion on detox diet, we should first understand the types of detox foods and herbs. What are their functions and what is so special about them that they assist in our cleansing and healing process within our body?

There are certain types of food that has consistent disease prevention and disease fighting capabilities. All these were recorded since centuries ago as well as by hundreds of modern day epidemiological studies through human and animal studies.

These detox diet foods are the vegetables and fruits. They contain so many different components of nutrition that scientists are just beginning to explore even more new nutritional benefits toward our human body.

These nutrients are able to supplement our body with a well-balanced amount of carboydrates, proteins, fats, an array of vitamins and minerals, and phytochemicals including flavonoids. It also maintains our body within a good acid alkaline balance.

Some might be wondering how come I stated fats and proteins from vegetables and fruits from the sentence above? In actual fact, the fats are the essential fatty acids that have been gaining strong recognition as good fats providing healing and cleansing effects for our body.

Proteins need not be consumed only through animal products. We are able to get very healthy protein from our vegetables especially through our consumption of soy-based foods, and nuts.

Moreover, sufficient amino-acids are accessible to provide our body with the necessary repair and building blocks for our cells through a balanced diet of whole grains and legumes.

Another important point detox foods should encompass is they are whole foods. They are the ones providing what are mostly lacking in our already abundance of processed foods – fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Processed foods remove all these very important ingredients required by our body. Instead they compensate with excessive salt (sodium chloride), chemicals, and coloring that makes eating them a fantastic experience with little or no meaning to our health except being harmful and cancer causing.

The choice of detox foods requires some knowledge too. Not vegetables or fruits bought are considered good detox foods. Sometimes we can forget the reason that these foods look so beautiful and fresh – they involve using insecticides, chemical fertilizers, and herbicides.

Their presence might not present definite benefit to our body. So my family has been skewing toward organic foods because of their wholistic aspect in terms of cleansing and whole foods since they are grown without the use of toxins and only through natural standards that presents positive health effects.

Other important detox foods include:
Soybeans
Whole grains
Legumes
Essential fatty acids
Herbs and spices
Juice fasting
