Colon Cleansing Foods The Right Nutrition to Cleanse and Protect
Here is some brief introduction on colon cleansing foods and nutrition. This is important because the possibility of consuming processed food or junk will have detrimental effect toward our colon and deter its detoxification process. We need to provide our colon with nutrients that repairs the mucosal cell differentiation, growth, function and repair. One of the most important nutrition for our colon is actually calcium and magnesium. Calcium is involved in the flexing of muscles and magnesium in the relaxation of muscles. So it encourages the muscles of our colon to effectively use peristalsis to move our stool. This helps to encourage our good bowel activities. Colon cleansing foods rich in calcium: - almond
- sesame seeds
- watercress
- kale
- beet greens
- broccoli
- spinach
- sunflower seeds
Colon cleansing foods rich in magnesium: - walnuts
- coconut
- beet greens
- spinach
- corn
- parsley
- sunflower seeds
Other important nutrition to provide a good colon cleansing and healing are:- Inulin: Fuel for the colon epithelial cells, helps in protection and healing of the colon, usually found in onions.
- Licorice root and deglycirrhized licorice (DGL): Anti-inflammatory effect for the colon. DGL further heals colon ulcers and stomach inflammations.
- Soluble fiber: Binds with fatty acids and prolongs stomach emptying time so that sugar is released and absorbed more slowly. Foods with soluble fiber are oat bran, dried beans and peas, nuts, barlet, flax seed, fruits like orange and apples, vegetable, and psyllium husks.
- Insoluble fiber: Promotes regular bowel movement and prevents constipation. Helps remove toxic waste through colon in less time, and prevent colon cancer by keeping an optimal pH in intestines to prevent microbes from producing cancerous substances. Insoluble foods are vegetables such as green beans and dark green leafy vegetables, fruit skins and root vegetable skins, whole-wheat products, wheat oat, seeds & nuts.
- Vitamin C: Assist in collagen formation and helps in connective tissue repair. It also reduces possible inflammation within our colon.
- Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5): Works with Vitamin C to support adrenals. It provides protein sythesis and ATP energy production which are needed for tissue healing process.
- Beta carotene: Helps in normal growth, function and repair of epithelial cells and those within the GI mucosa.
- Zinc: Repairs tissues, helps in enzyme functions, assist in cell replication and maintain good cell membrane of the colon lining.
- Selenium: Helps in chemical detox and protects colon cells from damage and assist in tissue repair.
- Essential Fatty Acids: Helps to strengthen cell membrane and also protect and heal the cells and tissues. Fish oil contains necessary fatty acids like Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
